Homily before the readings

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: I recently participated in Sunday Eucharist in another diocese. They have begun to cluster parishes with one priest serving more than one parish.  I was startled to hear the homily given BEFORE the Readings!  I later learned that this is being done in several parishes – not sure if it’s diocesan wide or not.  Thoughts?!

A: The homily has a sure place after the proclamation of the gospel, but GIRM 31 permits the priest to give an introduction to the Liturgy of the Word before the readings. That is to be done “in a very few words.”
