Q: I have a question about the ringing of the bells at the consecration. Recently we shifted from ringing the bells once at each elevation to three times. When I inquired as to why, I was told that “it’s what Father wants and it’s allowed for in the rubrics if that’s his desire.” I understand that the presider has a lot of latitude during the celebration but is this something he can change? Thank you for your help and insight, I’m just trying to understand and follow the guidelines.
Peace, Ray

I admit it’s hard to see a rubric that isn’t there. But when “three times” was removed from the present missal, the intention was to stop doing it that way.
