Tabernacle

Q: When removing ciboria from Tabernacle to assist at Holy Communion should the tabernacle and curtain be left open until it is returned then closed ? Aware that it is preferred that hosts consecrated at that Mass should be used and only an emergency amount kept in reserve in tabernacle but common practice is to use hosts from tabernacle .

A: There’s no specific instruction about this. However, HCWEMOM 11 says that a veil indicates the presence of the Most Holy Eucharist in the tabernacle. If the tabernacle becomes empty at the distribution of communion, then it makes sense to leave the doors and curtain open. If a vessel of consecrated hosts remains—even the host used for exposition—then it makes sense to close it.
