Anointing of the Sick

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. Has the rite for the Anointing of the Sick been updated?

Can you offer a guess at the timeline for the remaining sacrament/rites being available in English?

A: ICEL has been working on many of the rites, including Anointing of the Sick. It is not yet ready, and it could get held up if it continues to include parts of other ritual books, such as the RCIA.

I’m not sure how quickly our conference of bishops is working on which projects, nor how quickly the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments will return the final approvals. But I’m guessing we’ll see the Ordination Rites next and possibly the RCIA.

We could see smaller projects, like the completion of work on days recently added to the liturgical calendar. Penance could also be coming before too long. The Liturgy of the Hours is in the works but needs more time. It just takes time to move the ball down the field.
