Q:  Are priests required to chant the Eucharistic Prayer at every Sunday Liturgy?

A:  Priests are not required to chant the eucharistic prayer at every Sunday liturgy. GIRM 40 says, “in the choosing of the parts actually to be sung, preference is to be given to those that are of greater importance and especially to those which are to be sung by the Priest or the Deacon or a reader, with the people replying, or by the Priest and people together.” So, the greatest importance is not given to the eucharistic prayer, which includes some dialogues and acclamations, but is more of a prayer by its nature. Still, the eucharistic prayer is the most important prayer of the mass and singing it can add to its solemnity.
