Christian Witness

Q: I am preparing a presentation on canonical guidelines for godparents for the next clergy assembly.

I was reviewing your powerpoint from a few years ago on baptism and I have just one simple question for you:

Christian Witness … can this be any validly baptized Christian person, or does this person have to be baptized Catholic but may not have completed sacraments of initiation to qualify to be a godparent.

A: The Christian witness is a validly baptized Christian of another denomination. It really is not supposed to be a Catholic with incomplete sacraments of initiation. See canon 874 §2.
