Communion options

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  Is it permissible for a priest to tell people he prefers not to give communion in the hand, or while standing—making them feel like receiving on the tongue or while standing is wrong.  Is it permissible for a priest to tell people that receiving communion on the tongue in the kneeling posture is the only correct way to receive it?

A:  A priest may certainly speak his preferences regarding communion options, but he errs if he tells people that receiving communion on the tongue and kneeling is the only correct way. See GIRM 160 for the legislation in force in the United States.
