Concerts in churches

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  I feel uncomfortable with charging admission to an event held in the church. There are now Catholic speakers/groups that present “mission-type” events they advertise as  “free to the Parish” but require parishioners to pay about $30 a ticket to attend. Are there any guidelines, like from the USCCB, about this?

A:  I don’t know of any directives on this, but you may find it helpful to see the Vatican’s statement on concerts in churches: https://adoremus.org/2007/12/31/concerts-in-churches/
