Crucifix on the altar

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: I’m sure you have noticed that many of our churches (served by younger clergy in general) have put a crucifix on the altar ala like St Peter’s in Rome.

On a large altar I don’t mind that, although its not my preference.

I know the rubrics call that a crucifix be on or near the altar. But, can a flat cross with an etched corpus be placed on the altar? Would that be sufficient to meet the norm?

Do you have any photos of altar(s) with such a cross/crucifix? Yes, I am dealing with an interesting individual whop is rather rigorist.
