Epiphany Proclamation

Q: Please give me an explanation of the Epiphany Proclamation and according to your opinion, should we do that at Epiphany masses ? Thanks so much in advance.

A: The proclamation is an old tradition for aurally introducing the new liturgical year. It served even those who could not read and peoples without access to printed materials. It was especially important for people to know when Easter would be. It’s a lovely custom, even though it serves no real practical purpose today. It is not required, but it can still make a nice tradition.

Those who wish to sing it will find it near the end of the first appendix in the missal.
