Eucharistic Prayer I

Q: This post reminded me of something that I had wanted to ask you re the Hanc igitur in Eucharistic Prayer I at the Easter Vigil.

In OCIA, 242, it states: “In Eucharistic Prayer I, mention of the neophytes is made in the proper form of the hanc igitur (Therefore, Lord, we pray), at the Easter Vigil from the Roman Missal, Order of Mass, no. 87, and outside the Easter Vigil from the Ritual Mass for the Conferral of Baptism.”

In your book, Glory in the Cross, page 162, you write: “If Prayer I is chosen, then, the priest needs to remember two inserts. The second is repeated at paragraph 87 within the body of Eucharistic Prayer I, but it is an abbreviated version of the one from the Ritual Mass for the Conferral of Baptism. It would more logically be used if no one was baptized at the Easter Vigil this year.”

My question is, does “It would more logically be used if no one was baptized at the Easter Vigil this year” suggest that if there are baptisms at the Easter Vigil, then we should use the proper form of the Hanc igitur from the Ritual Mass for the Conferral of Baptism instead of n. 87 in Order of Mass in the RM?  And the same through the Octave?

Thank you.  You are ever helpful.  God bless you.

A: I generally use no. 87 in Eucharistic Prayer I at the Vigil and throughout the Octave, whether or not we had baptisms at the Vigil, because it explicitly mentions those days.
