Can the Eucharistic Prayer IV be used on a Sunday? I am aware is not permitted to change the preface for this Eucharist prayer. However, it is such a beautiful summary of the history of salvation, that I cannot understand why it would not be appropriate to use it on a Sunday.

Yes, you may use Prayer IV with its own preface on a Sunday in Ordinary Time, but not on Sundays during the other Times of the year. GIRM 365d says of it, “It may be used when a Mass has no Preface of its own and on Sundays in Ordinary Time.”
