Exposition and Benediction

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  Father, liturgically, is it ok to have adoration with benediction before mass? Or do we do it rightly after mass? Thanks for your help!

A:  I guess you could argue it either way, but the preference is for exposition after Mass with a host consecrated at that Mass. See the Rite of Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction #94.

But there are circumstances when the community has a long period of exposition, which needs to come to a close before Mass begins because Mass may not be celebrated with the Blessed Sacrament exposed. In that case, benediction is given before Mass begins. But under normal circumstances, after Mass makes more sense.
