Q: Question for you. We will be celebration the Rite of Acceptance in a couple weeks and I always struggle as where the Gloria should sung. I’ve even read online, in the Arch Diocese of New York, they suggest omitting it. What are your thoughts? Thank you!

Remember that the RCIA imagines that because the inquirers have very little Christian formation at all, this is taking place apart from Mass. I like doing it at Mass, but the liturgical book doesn’t tell you how. Even the missal has no presidential prayers for the Rite of Acceptance—it thinks the first Mass that includes the catechumens is the Rite of Election. Which, ironically, we don’t do at Mass.
