Q: Is it permitted to use a common verse with the gospel acclamation at Sunday Masses during the seasons? As I read the Lectionary for Mass, Second USA Edition, I find common verses for Sundays in Ordinary Time (163) and weekdays in Ordinary Time (509), with rubrics that all of these verses may be used either on Sundays or on weekdays, and I find common verses for weekdays during the seasons (192, 201, 211, 218, 223, 303, 304), but no indication that these weekday verses may be used on Sundays.

A: I’ve checked the Latin edition, and it fits what you describe as well. So, I’d say no, it’s not permitted to use a common verse for the gospel acclamation at Sunday Masses in Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. Those verses are specific to the other readings of the day.
