Holy Door

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: Outside of a Holy Year designated by the Holy Father, such as the Year of Mercy, can parishes erect/open a “Holy Door” – for example, during an anniversary year?I have never heard of such a thing, but a pastor here suggested it….

A: I don’t remember any universal directive on holy doors. The Vatican has sent out directives for its own holy years.

I guess it depends on what the pastor means by a holy door. He cannot on his own authority dispense indulgences for someone to pass through it, but he could ask the Vatican’s Apostolic Penitentiary.
