Q: Though we are ending the Lenten season, I am sure it is not late to ask this question. Are there any valid, liturgical or theological reasons not to use incense and processional cross during the Lenten Season? Here, more and more, in different parishes, incense and processional cross are not used, arguing that it is because of the penitential character of the season of Lent. I can’t remember any document of the Church stipulating that. You may know one, kindly share with us.

A: There are no rules limiting incense during Lent. The local community may decide what makes most sense. Here’s a previous post: https://paulturner.org/incense-on-ash-wednesday/
