Invitation to reconciliation

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: Could the priest change the invitation to reconciliation ‘Brothers and Sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries’? Or could he make up his own introduction to the penitential act based on the readings or on the liturgy of the day? This question comes as a curiosity after reading your article on Saint Michael’s Prayer. Thanks very much Father for all you do.

A: Yes, the priest has freedom there. The Vatican clarified that in 1973. I’ve treated this in my book In These or Similar Words.
