Liturgy and Life Study Bible

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: I’m intrigued by the new “Liturgy and Life Study Bible.”

In your daily email, could you, perhaps, give some background on how it came about and how it can help in the pastoral/liturgical setting of our parishes today?

Thanks.

A: Sure, thanks for asking.

Almost five years ago some staff from Liturgical Press asked John Martens and me if we could co-edit this volume for them. They knew of lots of other study bibles, but none that used the lens of the liturgy.

The introductory essays will help parish liturgists understand more of the biblical world and its use of worship. It will help readers of the bible focus on passages that deal with worship practices. It also includes an apparatus at the bottom of each page telling you where a particular passage appears across the liturgical books of the Catholic Church. Preachers, catechists and all who deal with liturgy will find this tool useful to see how one passages plays across various occasions that call for worship in the church.

And, of course, it’s the New American Bible Revised Edition with all its excellent footnotes.
