Marriage on the Immaculate Conception

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  A couple wants to be married on December 8th of this year. They are nearly 30, first time marriages, both Catholic, so everything else is easy.

  1. Are we celebrating this day as a Holy Day this year, since it falls on Saturday?
  2. May this couple get married on this day during Mass? The bride has a devotion to Mary and would not mind using those readings.
  3. Any other limitations or conditions?

Thank you for any help you can give.

A:  Yes, it is a Holy Day. Masses of precept are to be celebrated Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Yes, the couple may get married during Mass that day.

The readings and the presidential prayers are those of December 8. Use the Order of Celebrating Matrimony for the marrying part.
