Mass intentions during Holy Week

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: I just found out that we have never done Mass intentions for Holy Thursday or Easter Vigil. Is this a church rubric? We have had a few people ask and I would like to be able to understand it better so that I am not just saying “we have never done it that way before.” Obviously, with Good Friday not being a Mass we wouldn’t have a Mass intention that day.

A: You may accept a mass intention for Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil. Because Easter is a day of precept, one of the masses must be for the people, as usual. At all other masses of Easter, including the Vigil, a different intention may be applied.
