A: Even though two deacons usually divide their responsibilities as “deacon of the word” and “deacon of the eucharist,” the Ceremonial of Bishops imagines that there are 3 deacons, one of whom just handles the Book of the Gospels and the proclamation of the gospel. The others divide the responsibilities however they deem fit. If there are two deacons, and if they want to separate their responsibilities according to the two parts of the mass, then the petitions belong to the Liturgy of the Word.
