Masses with Children

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  We have 3 masses for our 2 schools every week. The pastor here allows Sunday Lectionary to be used at the weekday mass . It means he does not use the daily reading for masses at school. Is it liturgically correct ? Thanks.

A:  The Directory for Masses with Children 43 says this: “If all the readings assigned to the day seem to be unsuited to the capacity of the children, it is permissible to choose readings or a reading either from the Lectionary of the Roman Missal or directly from the Bible, but taking into account the liturgical seasons.” I do not recommend doing Sunday readings on weekdays with children because it may discourage their participation
