In addition to the opportunity to memorialize altar flowers and sanctuary candles, a church in our area accepts memorials or special intentions for the altar bread and wine. That strikes me as odd. Your thoughts?

A: Yeah, seems odd to me, too.
But the custom of designating a Mass intention probably originated from the request of people providing bread, wine and other gifts for the church, so in a way, it’s already being done almost everywhere. The memorializing of bread and wine for a given Mass seems at odds with that tradition.
