Non-Catholic funeral

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: Can a non-Catholic baptized Christian have a Catholic funeral if the rest of the family is Catholic?  For example, can the non-Catholic mother of a Catholic parishioner have a funeral at the daughter’s parish church?

A: The Vatican allows bishops to decide if a deceased, baptized non-Catholic may have funeral rites in a Catholic Church.

In some dioceses, the bishop delegates this authority to pastors. Check with your bishop’s office for the approval process.

My condolences to all. My prayers that the Catholic Church may provide comfort.
