Q: I have read the history and information you have put out about scrutinies in the past, my question is: Are the scrutinies on the particular weeks of Lent optional? I do not believe all parishes celebrate them at Mass or in their RCIA sessions. Can the Bishop give permission to ‘skip’ them?
With all the evil in the world, and people leaving the church, they seem more important than ever. So many, it seems, deem the scrutinies unimportant. Your thoughts?
