Patronal feast

Q: Our parish celebrates its patronal feast on a Sunday in Ordinary Time this month. What readings do we use? There are only two in the lectionary for the years when it falls on a weekday.

A: Because your parish is dedicated to Mary, you go to volume IV of the lectionary and look at the selection of readings in the Common of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If the weekday lectionary gives you an Old Testament reading, then choose a New Testament reading from the common in volume IV; and if it gives you a New Testament reading, then pick one from the Old Testament in the common.
