Posture for receiving communion

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: I have been told that we genuflect outside of Mass and bow during Mass, e.g., for the reception of Holy Communion.

A: The liturgical book “Holy Communion and Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass” gives no indication about the posture for receiving communion. If the ceremony takes place at church, it would be logical for the communicant to observe the usual posture and gesture as at Mass: stand and bow the head (GIRM 160). If an individual chooses to kneel, that should be permitted.

Remember, though, that many people receiving communion outside Mass are frail, living at home, in assisted living, or staying in a hospital. They will be receiving communion while seated or lying down.
