Q: Hi Father, I understand both Acolyte and EMHC are extraordinary and not ordinary ministers, with Acolytes being EMHC by virtue of their institution.
Is there a documented preference or instruction for an Acolyte being used as an EMHC during Mass prior to another EMHC?
God bless us.

A: GIRM 100 says that extraordinary ministers of holy communion serve “in the absence of an instituted acolyte.”
For more on that ministry, see my book Present for God’s Call.
