Procession at the end of Mass

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  The General Instruction of the Roman Missal has: “193. After the celebration of Mass, the acolyte and other ministers return together with the Deacon and the Priest in procession to the sacristy, in the same manner and in the same order in which they entered.” When ministers carrying the crucifix and thurible with incense have been in the Entrance Procession, in what order should they be in the procession at the end of Mass?

A:  The only difference results from GIRM 276, which does not call for incense in the final procession. Hence the minister who carries the thurible in cannot serve as a thurifer when going out. That minister joins the others behind the cross and candles because his or her function has changed.
