Procession of gifts

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  In your book Let Us Pray you discuss the procession of gifts.

GIFTS 424. Bread, wine, and money or other gifts for the poor or for the Church are brought to the altar (GIRM 73).

The question has come up as to who goes first: the bread and wine or the money just collected? I vote for the bread and wine but others say the money.

Thanks for your direction on this.

A:  No order is specified, so people may choose what works best. Many like to see the bread and wine come first as the primary symbols. When I receive the gifts I like to receive the basket first, then the wine, and then the bread so that I can take the bread directly into the sanctuary, hold it slightly raised above the altar, praise God for it, and then set it on the corporal.
