Procession of the gospel book

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: After the proclamation of the gospel at a mass where the bishop presides, the deacon may bring the book to the bishop for him to kiss. Should the candles and incense go with him?

A: The GIRM, OM and CB are silent about ministers carrying candles after the gospel. The implication of GIRM 175 is that the book is set aside without ceremony. CB 141 says that the ministers return to their places, and the Book of the Gospels is taken to a side table or some other suitable place. Again, no mention that this is done with ceremony. So I stand by what I wrote about candle bearers in Let Us Pray 353, “It would not be appropriate to simulate another procession of the gospel book.”
