Psalms

Q: Our Archdiocesan Music Committee was discussing the upcoming new translation of the Lectionary, and, of course, the psalms.  As a musician and someone who works with cantors, how big are the changes that are coming?  I am confused by these terms:   The Grailville psalms and the Abbey psalms.  How different or similar are they?  Any insights that you have on this would be most appreciated.

A: The English translation of the psalms now in force is called Abbey Psalms and Canticles. The monks of Conception Abbey worked on this revision of the Grail Psalter, and it went through some further changes before the USCCB and the Holy See approved the final text.

The entire collection has been available for several years now in book form. It is already entering the translation of liturgical books such as the OCIA and the Order of the Anointing of the Sick and of their Pastoral Care.

You’ll recognize the basic translation. I’m finding that many phrases now have greater clarity.
