Q: According to the Roman Missal, GIRM 294: “The Priest Celebrant, the Deacon, and the other ministers have places in the sanctuary. There, also, should be prepared seats for concelebrants, but if their number is great, seats should be arranged in another part of the church, though near the altar.”
It think this conveys that it is more important for a reader to have a seat in the sanctuary than a concelebrant. The practice of readers not having seats in the sanctuary is not supported by the liturgical books. Do you agree?

A: When GIRM 195 says that a reader takes a place in the sanctuary, I think it is referring to an instituted lector, as I’ve explained in my book Let Us Pray. The liturgical books tolerate seats for readers in the sanctuary or the nave.
