Q: In my pastor’s reading of the new marriage rite the Gospel and psalm are not required in weddings with no mass. Is this how you understand as well? I can’t recall ever being at a wedding where the psalm and gospel were not included.

A: The number of readings for a wedding without mass is not specified (Order of Celebrating Matrimony #90). When there is a wedding within mass, #55 says there may be 3 readings, and in the case of a Catholic marrying a non-Christian, one or two readings may be used (#122).
The silence at #90 can mean that 1, 2 or 3 readings may be proclaimed. A decision to have just one reading, in my opinion, can be justified.
