Rosary before Mass

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: Would like your comments about the practice of publicly praying the Rosary before a Sunday mass.  I’ve wondered, since singing is “praying twice”, could we have 30 minutes before Mass to have  hymn singing?

A: Every parish is different. Each Mass within each parish attracts a different congregation. It’s hard to say what works best in every case.

GIRM 45 asks for silence in the church, sacristy and adjacent areas before Mass, but that would not exclude appropriate common prayer, whether the rosary or in song, as long as some silence is allowed for all to collect themselves before Mass.
