Q: We have a teen who is baptized Catholic, never received any further sacraments of initiation. They are having a retreat for the teens in April, they are wondering if it would be proper to have her receive her first Eucharist at this retreat and then be confirmed with her peers in May.
This teen is well catechized. While we normally don’t encourage pulling apart the sacraments it doesn’t seem to be the case in this scenario. They have also discussed the possibility of completing her sacraments of initiation at the Easter vigil. But it doesn’t seem that that’s the place for her.
Thoughts? My vote would be first Eucharist at the retreat and Confirmation with peers in May.

A: This teen fits into the category described by OCIA 400, 408 and 409. The OCIA recommends the Easter Vigil for both sacraments in this case.
However, the one who makes the final decision is the bishop. Even if you want to follow OCIA 409, you still need the bishop’s permission.
