Soap in the sacrarium

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: Regarding your post on soap in the sacrarium https://paulturner.org/17332-2/, I recall hearing at some point in my training that soap can damage the proper functioning of a sacrarium… leading to it backing up.

I can’t find documentation anywhere, but I would be hesitant to pour any soapy water down the sacrarium.

Maybe another reader knows if this has roots in reality or is an ecclesial urban myth.

Better to—after purifying—rinse the vessels with water, pour that down the sacrarium, and then wash with soapy water in the regular sink (as per your booklet on Sacristans from LTP!).
