Triduum at a specific place

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  Is it appropriate to celebrate only Holy Thursday Mass at a place (e.g. Newman Center), or should one intend to celebrate the entirety of the Triduum at a specific place? That is, since the Triduum is viewed as one continuous liturgy over the course of several days, is it proper to celebrate Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper without celebrating Good Friday and Easter Sunday at that specific location.

A:  You certainly may celebrate Holy Thursday Mass only at a given place. In fact, the rubrics for the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper envision such a possibility. See #45 for that liturgy in the missal. It envisions that there is no adoration, and that you simply conclude mass as usual. If people wanted to have adoration, then I think the typical rules also come into force from Holy Communion and Eucharistic Worship Outside Mass.
BTW, although people commonly express that the Triduum is “one continuous liturgy over the course of several days,” the liturgical books do not say that nor treat it exactly that way. Each one has a beginning and an end. They’re just different from what you’d expect.
