Q: I am aware of the following plan: two funeral Masses in the presence of the body, each preceded by visitation in the church, in two different states, with burial only occurring after the second funeral in the second state. Yes, two funeral Masses with the body present, not one funeral Mass and the other being a Mass for the dead.
Am I wrong to think such a plan is probably illicit and makes no ritual or liturgical sense?

The Order of Christian Funerals envisions one funeral Mass. I’d have to know a lot more about the situation to say if something inadvisable should be prohibited. Someone may have judged it was a helpful outreach to manage grief.
