Q: One of our priests is posting the Vigil on-line (as are many) and he is doing the minimum of 3 Old Testament readings. Besides the Exodus 14 reading, are there any others that are compulsory?

A: Only the Exodus reading is compulsory, but now we are obliged to have Old Testament readings from both the law and the prophets. So, if he’s limiting himself to 3 readings, he cannot choose the first three. He can choose one or two of those – including Exodus 14, and then the remaining two or one of the readings 5 through 7.
