Q: Hello Good and Holy Father Paul,
I see lot’s of Deacons and Priests genuflecting to the Tabernacle during the Eucharist (both retrieving and reposing the consecrated hosts). To me, this seems to go against the rubrics.
However, their argument is that they are not genuflecting to the Tabernacle in place of Bowing to the Altar, but that it’s just an additional sign of reverence.
I say, “don’t do what is doesn’t say.”
What do you say?
Love your blog and the ability to ask you questions. Keep us the good work!

I advise not genuflecting when retrieving hosts from the tabernacle before communion because there are already consecrated hosts on the altar. But I see the argument for genuflecting after communion, especially if the tabernacle is not in the sanctuary.
