Back to School (Mass)

Q: I recently watched your FDLC session on the Lectionary. You reminded us that we are to use the saint day readings with caution. What about when the Mass in question is a Catholic elementary school Mass? Also, what are your feelings on using the Children’s Lectionary at these school Masses? Thanks for your guidance!

A: For an occasional school Mass, the cautions about the saint’s day readings do not apply. The concern is more for people participating at daily Mass who would benefit from hearing the weekday readings as planned. Often other readings are more appropriate for children.

If the majority of those in attendance are children, then the Children’s Lectionary is fine.
