Mass for St. Carlo Acutis

Q: Greetings, Father,

Am I correct that we cannot celebrate a Mass for St. Carlo Acutis because we don’t have the proper approvals in English this year? In the bulletin, then, could I put “Commemoration of St. Carlo Acutis” as a way for the faithful to remember him on this day?

What would/do you suggest?

A: GIRM 355 says that on weekdays in Ordinary Time, there may be celebrated “the Mass of any Saint inscribed in the Martyrology for that day.” St. Carlo has not been placed on the universal calendar, nor on the liturgical calendar of the USCCB, but he is now listed in the Roman Martyrology for October 12. It would therefore be permissible for a priest to preside for a Mass using the Common of Holy Men and Women, For All Categories of Saints, B. For One Saint, 1 or 2—but only on that day.
