Q: Kindly advise about whether the Advent Wreath is lit during the Christmas Octive.
My hope is that the white candle burns together with the 3 violet and 1 prose coloured candles for context. We linged for the Lord Jesus, he has arrived and the juxtaposition of our Advent waiting and the infant’s arrival is Ibthink beautifully symbolic for the Christmas Octave.
What does the liturgical expert suggest.

A: The Advent wreath comes to us through popular piety, not from the liturgy. There’s quite a bit of freedom on how to use it and interpret it. In the United States, Catholics traditionally retire it when Christmas arrives, but other Christian denominations keep it going. I’m not sure of your customs in Australia.
However you use it, if people interpret its meaning in harmony with the season, you’ll be fine.
