Q: Is there a standard procedure for an Ash Wednesday service sans the priest where people can come to pray and still get their ashes?
We’re running into a scheduling conflict, and I’m trying to find a way to accommodate various groups.

A: Yes. The Book of Blessings provides the service in Chapter 52, beginning at #1656. It puts certain parts in brackets so you can see what a lay minister does and what an ordained minister does. Just provide blessed ashes ahead of time, and you’re good to go.
