Blessing to people who bring the gifts of bread and wine

Q: The priest from my parish blesses the people who bring the gifts of bread and wine at the offertory. He just offers -as I see- a mild blessing with the sign of the cross. No words said. Question: Is that liturgically acceptable?

Thank you kindly.

A: There’s no provision for this, but I see a lot of priests do it. I’ve even seen livestreams of popes doing it.

In my view, the procession of the gifts is no time to hand out blessings. A simple word of gratitude should suffice.
