A: No, I have no recollection of saying that.
When I have no deacon and I proclaim the gospel, I look at the people as much as I can while following the sacred text.
GIRM 29 says that in the proclamation of scriptures, “God is speaking to his people.” And GIRM 38 says that in pronouncing texts, “the voice should correspond to the genre of the text itself.”
In my view, this is best expressed when the person reading looks at those listening and skillfully uses his or her voice—and face–to convey the sense of the passage.
That said, readers should not draw attention to themselves, but always to the Word of God.
