Q: Paragraph #88 of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, in the format for a Celebration of the Word of God says, “A brief homily that explains the readings should be given.” Who is allowed to give the homily at a Celebration of the Word of God?
==
A: That paragraph in the 1988 RCIA implies that the homily is given by the person who leads the celebration.
We have not yet received the revised English translation of the soon-to-be-called OCIA. Possibly this word will change because other documents clearly reserve the word “homily” to the reflections offered by a priest or deacon.
