Chasuble and Biretta

Q: I know that the GIRM is silent about these. That is why I am asking.

1. Is it still allowed to use the pre-Vatican II style of chasuble?
2. Can a concelebrant priest wear the biretta during the Mass? What about the Master of Ceremonies? Is he allowed to wear during the Mass?
Thank you.

A: The GIRM gives no instructions on style for the chasuble, so there’s no restriction on it, as far as I know. It says the priest wears a chasuble, but nothing further on style.

However, it does not call for him to wear a biretta. When something has been removed from the rubrics, the priest is not to restore it. In my view, that applies to the biretta. Similarly, it would be inappropriate for a Master of Ceremonies to wear a biretta. That said, many priests do. I just can’t justify it.
